2009 Cincinnati Hamilton County Community Action Agency

The CAA's Blueprint for Success Initiative is an innovative program created in 2005 to respond to: 1) youth joblessness in inner city neighborhoods; 2) the demand for construction workers in the market; 3) the need to reclaim housing stock in Cincinnati; 4) the need to increase low to moderate income homeownership.

Youth in training are taught construction skills through engaging in actual rehab and construction. Prior to 2009, the CAA and Blueprint for Success successfully rehabbed two affordable two unit homes on Loft Street.

The 2009 Operating Support Grant provided the CAA with funding for staff time related to planning, construction and renovation of four (4) homes for low to moderate income people on Loth Street in the neighborhood of Mt. Auburn. View the photos to the right to see the before photos of one of the rehabs completed in 2009 as part of the CAA's Blueprint for Success Initiative. The certificate of occupancy was secured and the home went up for sale in early 2010.

In addition to the completion of the rehab of the single family house for homeownership, the CAA was also able to complete the demolition of one of the neighboring buildings to make way for new construction. New construction of three single family homes is set to begin in 2010, after financing is secured. Pictured to the left is an overall view of the street the CAA will transform. The houses in the first photo from left to right are as follows: the far left was rehabbed prior to 2009 and is currently inhabited, the middle was rehabbed in 2009 and the building on the right was demolished in 2009 to make way for new construction. Pictured in the second photo is the empty lot beside these three buildings which will be the future site of two new homes.
