Winton Place Development Corporation

Using this 2009 Operating Support Grant, Winton Place Development Corporation will acquire, rehabilitate, market and sell homes in the community. They will also build up their organizational capacity by developing new financial resources. Some of the new construction planned for vacant lots will be sustainable/green.

Founded in 1981, WPDC was an all volunteer organization rehabbing just one home each year. Seeing a recent rise in foreclosures, vacant buildings spreading blight and the need to update homes for modern families, theyÕve stepped up their

efforts to planning for rehabbing or building five homes this year.

The group of photos above and to the left are of homes WPDC will rehab. The home to the left will be an extra challenge because of the heavy water damage it has sustained on both the first and second floors from a leak in the roof. But its antique architectural details make it worth saving. WeÕre looking forward to the after pictures!

To the right is an example of the WPDCÕs fine rehab work. ItÕs a quaint two bedroom home, with comfy wall to wall carpet. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, new refrigerator, gas stove and plenty of cabinet and pantry space. The energy efficiency of the home is evidenced in its Energy Star new windows, new water heater, new furnace and air conditioner.
